On Sunday, May 17, 2009, the Morgan and Smokey Brown Foundation (MSBF) will host its 1st Annual Spring Fling. Port Richmond and the entire Philadelphia region are invited to an evening of food, fun and friends to support MSBF's dedication to children and its goal of furthering the pursuit of higher education. The Spring Fling will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cescaphe Ballroom (923 North Second Street). Growing up in the Port Richmond neighborhood, MSBF Founder Patrick Brown had witnessed many individuals who, as children, were active in their communities, but fell in to trouble during their high school years. Most came from families where parents provided emotional support but did not have the financial resources to send them to a private high school. Brown established the Morgan and Smokey Brown Foundation in 2008 in order to help Port Richmond families give their children a private secondary level education with the resources and individualized attention to keep them on track toward a successful future. Guests of MSBF's Spring Fling will have the chance to bid on exciting auction items or contribute to the MSBF donation board. The event will also feature an open bar, a buffet of seafood, pasta, hibachi, a gourmet carving station, and an array of decadent desserts, all prepared by Cescaphe's talented catering staff. Live entertainment by the Soul Cruisers will keep the dance floor hopping to the sounds of classic Philly Soul, Motown, Disco and more. Tickets are available for $200 per ticket or $300 per couple.
